As a proud supplier of vape products, Redline Vapors in Boise Idaho is all too aware of the Washington’s efforts to impose an oppressive vape tax. Known as Bills HR5717 and S2929, these bills propose to add a HUGE tax to any vape product amounting to an extra $50-$100 on kit and e-liquids costing up to $25 or more. These bills are making it increasingly difficult for vapers to access affordable hardware, and in some cases, it can cost up to 200% of the original price.  The increase in taxation of the nicotine rate on vape products vs cigarettes would be 5 times the increase.

The justification for the imposition of Bills HR5717 and S2929 is the potential charitable purposes for which the revenues may be used. In many cases, the proposed revenues seem to be spent on unrelated matters; including infrastructure, education, and law enforcement. Proponents of the bills argue that the nicotine used in vape products is here to stay and is therefore liable for taxation in order to fund these causes.

At Redline Vapors in Boise Idaho, we believe that the use of vape products should not interfere with the day-to-day lives of consumers. We have seen the effects of oppressive federal taxes on products in the food and beverage industries – and it isn’t pretty. Any further direct taxation of vape products could effectively put many vape businesses out of business, leaving thousands of people without access to important supplies needed to quell their nicotine cravings.

Bills HR5717 and S2929 must be stopped. It is our belief that the burden of taxation should be laid on the shoulders of vape consumers, not on distributor businesses. We urge our customers and supporters in Boise and all across the country to contact their representatives and voice their opinion on this issue.
